In the growing need for individuality in our society, the customization of clothing is a popular way to let people know who you are. What better way to do so than with a custom t-shirt? A custom t-shirt can say pretty much anything you want it to. There are several ways to create and customize a shirt, each one varying in cost, quality and endurance.
It can be a very easy process, depending on your level of involvement. Some people might want to design and print a t-shirt themselves, while others would just be happy having one different from everybody else.
Screen printing is one way to produce a custom t-shirt. While this can assure you a quality product, it could end up being very costly as well. The cost of paint is just one of the fees involved in screen printing, as every color costs more and needs to dry on its own before another color can be applied. Aside from this, there can also be fees for the screen, the setup and shirt among possible others.
Another way to print a custom t-shirt is with a normal printer similar to the one you'd normally use with your computer. This process is usually less expensive and works a lot faster, as the printer puts the design directly on the shirt. While it might seem like a better option than screen printing, the quality won't be as good and the print could wear off the t-shirt faster.
Iron-on transferring has its pros and cons as well. This style of custom t-shirt printing involves creating a mirror image or reverse design on a computer. The design needs to be mirrored horizontally, so when it is pressed against the shirt it will appear as it normally should. Using an ink jet printer, the design is printed onto special iron-on paper. Once the image is printed, it is simply pressed down against the shirt and ironed on. This is an inexpensive way to perfectly preserve the image on the t-shir. However, you will be limited to washing the shirt inverted, in cold or warm water to cut down on the wearing or cracking of the design. If it is not washed in this fashion, the printing can wear away fairly quickly.
Airbrushing is a common form of custom t-shirt design. Airbrushed t-shirts are created in basically two ways: designed and created by an artist or you can request an artist to design one especially for you. Some custom t-shirts are airbrushed then sold as is. In most airbrushing stores, there are pre-made designs that can be sprayed on the shirt, which can then be customized with a message or name. A more unique route to airbrushing is to hire an artist to make a truly original shirt just for you. Different airbrushing forms can vary depending on how involved you are and how much money you are willing to spend.
When creating a custom t-shirt there are obviously several avenues to take, as well as many factors to consider. It's best to figure out what your price range is, how fast you want the shirt, and what kind of quality you prefer before making any purchases.
